Committee Volunteers Are Stepping Up!
You know what they say, "If you want it done right, you have to do it yourself." Well, let's give a huge thanks to our neighbors who are doing something right for our neighborhood. There will be updates coming soon about their progress.

What am I talking about? These committees should be comprised of at least 4-6 individuals
that have the specific interest and talents to ensure the
committee’s objectives are fulfilled.

Standing room only for a tremendous group of residents who turned out for the most recent Homeowners meeting. The newly elected board members took the stage to introduce themselves and their goals.

Biggest story of the evening was the New Committees being launched this month. Brief presentations were made outlining each of them and handouts and sign-up sheets were available for volunteers. (Committee summaries are available from links in the story above.)

Other topics included reviews of existing contracts and procedures, reestablishing the block captain's role and neighborhood watch volunteers, traffic and parking problems, the Academy Development Offices building at the front entrance, and vandalism. (It's sad to see the sculpture of the bird at the pool has lost its head - what's up with that?)

Additionally, the board members expressed their commitment to restoring the quality of our neighborhood. As you might imagine, there is a long list of items to maintain, restore and manage in a neighborhood like ours. Have you heard the saying "It takes a village"? Well, here, it takes a neighborhood, and resident participation in one or more of these committees is a great way to help get things done.

Quite a few neighbors signed up so we off to a good start. But, there's still room for more.

Thanks to all of you who stepped up and signed on for a committee. And to those who couldn't this time, thank you for being there. It's all of you who will make a difference in our neighborhood.

Regards, Webmaster

The First Annual Windermere Lakes Fishing Tournament a BIG success
...and that's no fish story.

There was a great turn out for the first resident "catch and release" tournament. The event was a fun way to spend the day meeting and competing with our neighbors for a good cause. Proceeds from the event went to restocking the lakes.

A huge thank you to George Williams and the entire WL Lake Committee for organizing the event.

Moving to the Big Mouth League
That would be Large Mouth we're looking for. And if you know where that big bass is, you'll want to be on the look out for the Windermere Lakes Fishing League. In the planning stages now, it will be a weekend day, Adult and Junior divisions. The idea is that each person Annie's up 10.00 for each Bass and Catfish division. The tournament will last 4-5 hours in the evening. And the biggest fish takes the money. An honor system will be used with all participants using the same kind of weight scales. We are still getting everything lined out, so all ideas are welcomed. You can contact George Williams for more info and suggestions.

The Holiday Social was holiday special.
A big thank you to all who brought delicious food for the evening and to the hosts for all their hard work. Stay tuned for the next get together to be announced right here.

Is There Something Slimy In Our Lakes?
Captain George and Lake Pro will be conducting fish surveys on Monday Nov 7. They will do Sunset Lake and Flamingo Lake this month. We will post the results and pictures on the web site as soon as the results are in.

Yes, They're Called Fish!
The fish that are stocked in the lakes are Bass and Catfish. We have Perch, Shiners and Fathead minnows as forage fish for the Bass and Catfish. Please practice catch and release on all species and use barbless hooks. It's not just a good idea, this rule will be enforced by the HOA. We have had some residents hauling fish out of the lakes and cooking them on their back porch. Please don't. The price "we" (all homeowners) pay for the stocking of fish is much more than the price you can buy fish at the grocery store and is not feasible for the community.

If you see anyone keeping or killing our fish, please contact Captain George, Lake Committee Director at 832-237-7004.
